The Mystery on the Youghiogheny
This stroy was stared way back in the 1700's, 1755 was the year. Two French traders were traveling along the Youghiogheny river to give supplies to the soldiers at Fort Duquesne, except the traders or the supplies never arrived. The traders names were Claude Andre Hainsworth, 21, and the other one was named Francois Gaston Mandeville, 23. Their boat was taking various food items, ammo, and furs to the soldiers of the fort. Claude and Francois kew the area and the river well as they had made the journey many times before. Not much is know about the trip after that because the boat never made it to the fort. Since they were carring much need supplies, the soldier of the fort set out to find them. Needless to say the soldier never found them and thought the indains must have gotten to them, which is a good explaination since the indains were hostile. However this explaination has lost crediblality over the years because Claude and Francois have been seen again. The first sighting of the two young traders after their disappearance came in 1757 by a French soldier who knew the traders, at least well enought to recognize them. This soldier spotted them near what is to day know as Dawson. As the story goes hthe soldier called out to them but they did not answer so he went down to the river bank to get their attention but still nothing. Now, getting frustrated, he followed them down the river less than a half of a mile and then there was a curve in the river and after the soldier got around the curve, the boat vanished. This was not the only sighting that was like this all together the number of reported sightings of Claude and Francois is up to 12 that is just the reported sightings there have been countless others that have gone unreported. All the sightings have come from the same bend in the river, which must mean that this is where they had dissappeared. If you would like to catch a glimpse of Claude and Francois for yourself i suggest to find the bend in the river just above Dawson and then on a summer night you just may see the traders who must travel the river for all eternity.
